Hi, I’m Bruce Jugan, president of BenefitsCafe.com. In 1993 I took over my dad’s insurance agency, which he started in 1970. I enjoy writing and I have written all of the articles on BenefitsCafe.com. Health insurance is extremely complicated and I find it challenging to make difficult things easy-to-understand. My expertise is in group (employer provided) benefits.
Since taking over my dad’s business I have been an active member of LAAHU, the professional association of health insurance agents. This keeps me up-to-date in the ever changing world of employee benefits.
I volunteer in my community and I am on the board of directors of the Brentwood Homeowners Association and the Montebello Land and Water Company. I’m also an advisory trustee of the ALS Goldenwest Chapter – my dad died from this terrible disease and I work to raise money and awareness to fight ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease.)
I graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and I have a master’s degree in urban planning from New York University. I worked in the urban planning field for eight years, first at a large civil engineering firm and then at a small boutique development consulting firm.
I volunteer as a youth soccer referee and I am an internationally rated referee for epee fencing. Many years ago I was the 3rd ranked epee fencer in the United States. I even lived in Paris, France for two years to pursue my passion for fencing. Now I give back to the sport by refereeing. I have a wonderful wife, two great children and an energetic Dalmatian.
Hi, I’m Stephanie Monzon and I’ve worked at BenefitsCafé.com for over 15 years. I’m a fully licensed health insurance agent and certified by AHIP and Covered California. I help seniors enroll in MediCare / Medi-gap and Rx plans. I also help small businesses set up group health plans. Young or old, individual or group, I can help you find the best health insurance plan for your specific situation.
Before I joined BenefitsCafe.com I worked for a medical provider and assisted with billing – this experience helps me understand and solve claim problems that BenefitsCafe.com clients sometimes experience. Often, communication between the doctor, hospital and the insurance company has broken down and I try to get everyone talking. It’s a great feeling when I solve a client’s problem.
I like to help other people. Not only at work; but I also like to help underprivileged children. Each year my entire family prepares hundreds of bags of goodies for children in poor parts of Mexico near Ensenada. We work with the local Rotary Club and distribute food, blankets, toys and candy to orphanages and needy families. I find this very rewarding.
I have a wonderful husband, three daughters, two beautiful grandchildren, a Parrot named Popeye, and a dog named Daisy.
Hi, I’m Jessica Arellano and I began working at BenefitsCafe.com in 2015. I help clients resolve claims and billing issues. I am a graduate of Cal-State University, Fullerton with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Fitness and Health Promotion. Prior to joining BenefitsCafe.com, I was a case manager for Kaiser’s, Emergency Prospective Review Program, which coordinates benefits for Kaiser patients in the emergency room at a non-Kaiser hospital. Working there taught me to be flexible and adaptable. I like helping people and solving problems that arise with their insurance coverage.
I enjoy learning new skills and challenging myself physically and mentally. Growing up in a large family taught me to understand and appreciate other people’s points of view. I enjoy reading and playing volleyball; a game that I have competed in for more than 12 years. Every day is a new chance to learn something new and I am happy to be a part of the staff at BenefitsCafe.com.
