Blue Cross of California has notified health insurance agents and brokers that they will have a "Focal Renewal" May 1, 2005. The focal renewal is the date when Blue Cross raises the medical insurance premiums for all small group health plans which cover companies that employ 2 to 50 employees. The amount of the rate increase varies by group, rating area and health plan in force. We have seen about 10 percent rate increases for the first groups sent to BenefitsCafe.com, Inc. The "Focal Renewal" only applies to small group plans which have been in force with Blue Cross of California prior to January 1, 2004. Blue Cross small group health plans which became effective after that date have a 12 month rate guarantee and the rate increase will take effect on the renewal date of the plan. |
