The Shield Spectrum PPO 2000 is one of the best priced plans for the person looking for coverage that includes maternity care. The Shield Spectrum PPO 2000 has a $2,000 individual annual deductible ($4,000 family) and covers prescription medicine and doctor office visits before you have to pay the medical plan deductible. Doctor office visits with preferred providers are $45 (deductible waived) and, more importantly, the plan will pay the medical costs of pregnancy and maternity care. It is one of the best priced plans for maternity care. The monthly premiums on the Spectrum 2000 PPO are similar to plans that do not offer maternity coverage. The costs of a premature birth or other complications of pregnancy or delivery can be huge. This plan offers good value - especially for anyone who might possibly have a baby. The Blue Shield Spectrum 2000 PPO also allows a subscriber to add a new born child to the plan on a "guarantee issue" basis within 31 days of delivery. This is a tremendous benefit because even a new born child with serious medical problems can obtain health insurance. Blue Shield of California has one of the largest PPO provider networks available – meaning that more doctors and hospitals are “in-network” and you pay less for medical services. The Shield Spectrum PPO plans are among their most popular individual and family plans. You can select a Shield Spectrum PPO plan with a $500, $750, $1,500, $2,000 or $5,000 deductible. The higher the deductible the less you pay to the insurance company in premium. Some medical services, such as doctor office visits, are covered before you have to pay the annual deductible. When two or more family members are on one plan, each covered individual has his or her own individual deductible in case only one person needs expensive medical care. In addition, the family deductible can be met by any family member or combination of family members. Other medical services that are covered after you have paid the plan deductible include hospitalization, emergency room services, ambulance services, durable medical equipment, mental health services, chemical dependency services, family planning, rehabilitation services, chiropractic coverage and out-of-state services.
