Blue Shield California Small Group Rate IncreaseBlue Shield of California has just announced that they will raise the premiums for all of their small employer medical insurance plans in California effective April 1, 2005. Blue Shield estimates that the new rate increase will average only 3.43 percent. This is a very modest rate increase for California medical insurance plans. 15 to 20 percent rate increases and higher have been the norm since 2000. Of course the specific medical insurance rate increase will vary for each company that has Blue Shield Small Group health insurance. The rate increase will apply to existing and new small group health insurance plans. This includes HMO, PPO and POS medical insurance plans.
