Blue Cross of California Tonik Thrill Seeker Health Insurance Plan

Anthem Blue Cross of California introduced the "Thrill Seeker - AKA 5,000" health insurance plan. It is marketed towards the "young invincibles," or people who never think that they will ever get sick or injured and see little need to pay for health insurance protection.

The Thrill Seeker is the least expensive Tonik health insurance plan available, ostensibly because it requires enrollees to pay the most out of their pocket ($5,000) before Anthem Blue Cross of California begins paying anything for medical care.

The reality is that everyone can - and will - get sick or injured at some point in his life. We just don't know when and how seriously we will be laid up.

The Thrill Seeker offers:

1. Very low monthly premiums ($64 to $123 per month for someone under age 30, depending on where the person lives and his medical condition);
2. Four doctor office visits per year for only $20 each;
3. Generic prescription medicine for only $10 per prescription; and
4. $5,000 deductible and out of pocket maximum, which means that "if you're covered and stay in (the California Anthem Blue Cross Health Insurance) network, the most you'll pay is ... $5,000 plus your monthly payment." (Excerpted from the Tonic online Application)

There is NO maternity coverage on this plan. So, if one of those thrill seekers decides to have a child, he or she should change health insurance plans.

A large percentage of people who do not have health insurance are young hipsters - this is a perfect plan for them. People can ONLY apply online. As hard as it is to imagine, the application process is VERY easy and actually sort of fun.

Best of all, people enrolled in the Thrill Seeker can design their own health insurance benefit card.
